ABOUT THE WILTSHIRE AIR AMBULANCE

About usWiltshire Air Ambulance was established in

April 1990 as a joint venture between the Wiltshire

Ambulance Service NHS Trust and the Wiltshire

Constabulary.

We attend all kinds of incidents, from road traffic

collisions to horse-riding accidents, child-related

emergencies to sporting and cycling injuries. We also

attend medical emergencies such as heart attacks and

strokes. These incidents are not just in Wiltshire but

in neighbouring counties as well (12% are outside the

county). Equally WAA is supported by neighbouring air

ambulances i.e. 12% of their callouts are in Wiltshire.

air ambulance flies 19 hours a day with 12% of all call

outs occuring after dark.

In partnership with the police (the air ambulance also

provides airbourne law enforcement), and under this

arrangement, it currently costs £700,000 a year to keep

Wiltshire’s air ambulance in the skies. However,

in December 2014, the charity will need to raise £2.5m a year as it will lose police funding. This level of income will then have to be sustained year on year. WAA does not receive any government funding, but relies totally on the generosity of the public and businesses in the local community.

We really are funded by you and flying for you.
